Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation Recognized for $130,000 in Grant Support to the Northern Arizona Healthcare Foundation

Funds support oral health education, training and treatments for families at Northern Arizona Healthcare hospitals

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (May 24, 2018) - The Northern Arizona Healthcare Foundation today recognized the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, headquartered in Glendale, Arizona, for supporting children and families in northern Arizona with education, training, and treatments for oral health with cumulative donations totaling more than $130,000 since 2013.

The donations support programs delivered through the hospitals of Northern Arizona Healthcare:

  • Since 2013, the Foundation has supported Verde Valley Medical Center’s Healthy Families program with oral health education and training for families enrolled in the program.
  • Since 2014, the Foundation has supported Flagstaff Medical Center’s Children’s Health Center with the purchase of electric toothbrush kits and fluoride varnish for children who, due to medical conditions, cannot use a manual toothbrush.

Approximately 40 percent of preschoolers in Arizona have tooth decay. Among the more rural, economically disadvantaged populations in northern Arizona, the number is even higher. “Dental problems are a priority health issue for both children and adults. When simple dental problems go untreated, this can lead to more serious health conditions. The systemic impact of oral health is significant,” said Cristine Currie, Director of Population Health Management at Northern Arizona Healthcare. “So, prevention really is the best medicine.”

“We are grateful for our long-standing relationship with the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, and its commitment to support the healthcare needs of families in northern Arizona,” said Rick Smith, President and CEO of the Northern Arizona Healthcare Foundation. It has made a real difference by providing funding for education, training, and treatments that support the important oral health needs of the people of our region.”
